"Tony Whyte’s artworks are bright and dynamic works, which represent the constant change and certain chaos in nature. His works are not created in order, and do not follow a pattern. He explores the interaction of natural forces, which drag us into his works."

LANDSCAPE; RURAL VS URABN - BRICK LANE GALLERY - 2015

The paintings in my exhibition, Scape, were imagined landscapes derived from my experiences, memories, dreams and escapes. I can remember as a child sitting on the beach looking out to sea, jumping, swimming and diving through the waves and treading water once out beyond the breakers, looking seaward, the horizon between sky and water stretching outside my peripheral vision, and turning to look back at the beach, the swell lifting my eyes up and down to view the sand, the waves, the dunes. This swell had begun far out past the horizon and was now creating waves that were shaping the coastline, the rocks and the sand, continuously washing, pounding, grinding and shaping.

A story is told of J.M.W. Turner having himself lashed to a mast of a ship heading out into a storm. It may be true, but what is undoubtedly true is his affinity for making art with the elements of Earth, Fire, Air and Water.
